My mobile phone rang.

I said, “Hello……”

Admin said, “Hi, Yip Wai Hung.”

I said, “Karen (The administrative officer of Hong Kong International Institute of Music).”

Admin said, “Yes, free for a short chat.”

I said, “Yes, please.”

Admin said, “Congratulations. You are awarded a scholarship.”

I said, “A scholarship?”

Admin said, “Yes, a scholarship.”

I said, “Wow, I’ve never got a scholarship before.”

Admin said, “Try one today.”

I said, “How can I be awarded?”

Admin said, “Average result is 3.5 or higher.”

I said, “Yeah, wonderful.”

Admin said, “The school has got a scholarship notification letter for you as well.”

I said, “Not only money, but also a gift?”

Admin said, “You can attach it to your APA application.”

I said, “Great. When can I get the letter?”

Admin said, “Next week. Ask me for it when back to school.”

I said, “OK.”

Another me said, “Alas, clueless.”

I said, “I know you’re envious about my success.”

Another me said, “You know it, how?”

I said, “You’re a lazy coward that not only avoids matters and people, but never pays the price for your own pursuits. You yourself block all the ways to your success. You end up with nothing successful and you’ll get envious about my attainment. This is understandable, isn’t it?”

Another me said, “I pray that the Lord’ll immediately burn you into ash with lightning and thunder.”

I said, “Thanks Lord, I’m still alive.”

Another me said, “This piece of reflection is not about me but you. Let’s move back to you.”

I said, “Alright. Back to me.”

Another me said, “You’re not from a music family.”

I said, “Right.”

Another me said, “Music is not something you started learning since young. You lost at the starting line.”

I said, “Right.”

Another me said, “You’re still deaf and dumb in music three years ago. But now you never caught the right pitch and rhythm in your listening and singing.”

I said, “Right.”

Another me said, “You’re so old. You did not learn English until 30 something. You’re too old to retrieve your talent.”

I said, “Right.”

Another me said, “You don’t have a sound finance. You know nothing about what will happen in your music learning. You spend most of what you earn in an instant.”

I said, “Right.”

Another me said, “Wrong! How come you're awarded a scholarship?”

I said, “Right, this is a logical result of my daily walk with the Lord.”

Another me said, “Only you keep a daily walk with the Lord? I do too.”

I said, “But why haven’t I heard of your sharing about your daily walk with the Lord? If you had had a daily walk with Him, why would you have undergone no changes in your life at all? Even if you walk from Ngau Tau Lok station to Kwun Tong station, you’ll see a different view, like APM.”

Another me said, “This piece of reflection is not about me but you. Let’s move back to you.”

I said, “Alright. Back to me.”

Another me said, “How do you have your daily walk with the Lord?”

I said, “First, I’ve my daily walk with the Lord with all my heart.”

Another me said, “How to walk with all your heart?”

I said, “Every morning I wake up, I think about the Lord and music.”

Another me said, “First, how about second?”

I said, “Second, I walk with the Lord with all my strength.”

Another me said, “How to walk with all your strength?”

I said, “Once I’m off from work, I return to the music school to learn music. Once I leave music school or get on holiday, I return to the band room with Him to study music where I’ve paid countless time and effort.”

Another me said, “Um……So you’re now very smart, right?”

I said, “I know I am smart. But I am not the only one. There are other students awarded a scholarship.”

Another me said, “So smart, you can ignore those around you.”

I said, “Can’t you see those in the monthly preparation for the composition recital in the next semester? Instead I have to seek them. If I don’t, who plays the piece I compose? A composer can’t survive without instrumentalists.

Another me said, “So smart, You can fly and you no longer have to keep walking.”

I said, “Of course I get to walk! I’ve been following the Lord in my daily walk. If I’m not down-to-earth, I can never master music. I’ve decided to keep learning until back to heaven.”

Another me said, “Now that you’re awarded a scholarship, you’ve found the milestone of success, is it still necessary to follow the Lord?”

I said, “No doubt it is. I’ll still continue my daily walk with Him with all my heart and with my strength. Because I believe the Lord has already prepared the next bigger milestone of success for me to unearth together with Him. Come on.”

Another me said, “Hold on, what is your next bigger milestone of success?”

I said, “You can never find it by standing here. Let's move on.”
