I sat on a bench, switched on my composition and started composing.

Walking out of the office door is the school administration officer.

Admin said, “Happy new year.”

I said, “Happy new year.”

Admin said, “How is your studies? Are you happy?”

I said, “Happy.”

Admin said, “Busy?”

I said, “Very busy?”

Admin said, “busy with what?”

I said, “I’ve got a composition recital every semester, a test every week and composition and instrument practices every day.”

Admin said, “Add oil. Future composer.”

I said, “I’ll try my best.”

Admin said, “By the way, have you got any spare time?”

I said, “For what?”

Admin said, “I want you to help with some translation.”

I said, “Of what?”

Admin said, “The opera at the end of this semester in July.”

I said, “Um…”

Admin said, “Why ponder?”

I said, “I was allowed a fairly short for translation of last year’s musical. I’m worried I am getting a little busy with my studies once in a while.”

Admin said, “No time. There is much more time available this time.”

I said, “How much more?”

Admin said, “Show you the details when the text is out.”

I said, “OK.”

Another me said, “Are you idle?”

I said, “None of your business.”

Another me said, “Don’t you compose?”

I said, “I do once I get to my computer.”

Another me said, “Don’t you sight-sing?”

I said, “I do once I get on the MTR.”

Another me said, “Don’t you play clarinet?”

I said, “I play once I return to the band room.”

Another me said, “Don’t you conduct?”

I said, “I do once I walk on the street.”

Another me said, “Don’t you teach?”

I said, “Hey……Have you finished questioning?”

Another me said, “You don’t have spare time, do you?”

I said, “Spare time, there is somewhere. I can squeeze it out it if I want to do it. The admin said there is much more time available.”

Another me said, “What do you still want to do it? You’re already APA student.”

I said, “I love IIM. She’s helped me before.”

Another me said, “What help?”

I said, “To be admitted into APA. Without the teachers and classmates there to help me, could I have got into APA with my own strength?”

Another me said, “You’ve paid the school fee already. You owed them nothing.”

I said, “I didn’t say I owed them anything. I said I wanted to to do it.”

Another me said, “……”

I said, “Forget it. Just forget it if you don’t want to help the music school. But how about the Lord?”

Another me said, “The Lord? Does the Lord ever need my help?”

I said, “Of course not. He is the created of the universe.”

Another me said, “See.”

I said, “But the Lord loves interaction with us. He wants us to work for Him. If the Lord asks you, do you want to do it?”

Another me said, “It depends on what it is.”

I said, “What don’t you do?”

Another me said, “It depends on whether I have time.”

I said, “You compose, conduct, sight-sing and play clarinet every day……and teach, don’t you have any spare time left?”

Another me said, “It depends on whether I want to squeeze some time out.”

I said, “Do you love the Lord?”
