“The afterlife, how different does it look❓”
Proactive.

Class was over. My student took my parents’ invitation to stay behind for dinner and a chat about their good old days.
Student said, “Take a look at my leg.”
I said, “Wow, you’ve just had your wound healed. Here comes another?”
Mum said, “What happened?”
Student said, “I felt off my bike onto the ground and reopened the old wound.”
Mum said, “Alas, you shouldn’t gone cycling so shortly after you’ve just had your old wound stitched.”
Student said, “It’s too slow to walk around my workplace, which is too large for me.”
Mum said, “Hold on. You cycled during work. Is it work injury?”
Student said, “Yes, it is.”
Mum said, “The medical charge is fully covered by your company, isn’t it?”
Student said, “Not fully covered unless I go to the public hospital.”
Mum said, “Did you go the public one to have your wound stitched last time? Is it fully covered by your company?”
Student said, “I did go for the emergency service in a public hospital. It’s full covered by my company.”
Mum said, “Then, go for the emergency service in a public hospital again this time.”
Student said, “No, it isn’t serious. It takes a long wait in the public hospital.”
Mum said, “Let it be a long wait. There is nothing more important than your health, right?”
Student said, “Well, don’t waste time. I’ll retire in a few years. A few days after my retirement, it’s about time.”
I said, “It’s about time to die, isn’t it?”
Mum said, “Oops, touch wood.”
Student said, “Yes, it is.”
I said, “How do you know you’ll die a few years after retirement? Jesus told you, didn’t He?”
Mum said, “Disgusting! Can you not say something like that?”
Dad said, “Well, I’ve reached the retirement age and suffer serious diabetes. I won’t allow my present living to be carried away by my future death. But you let yourself be carried away by your future death, even before retirement and with no critical illness at all now.”
Student said, “How old are you?”
Dad said, “60 something.”
Student said, “Wow, you’re already 60 something?”
Dad said, “Yes, I’m 60 something. But I won’t allow my present living to be carried away by my future death. Instead, I’m seeking ways to live a little longer.”
Student said, “Once retired and having all the savings gone, we are left no other choice but death.”
Dad said, “Ask children for money if all savings are gone.”
Mum said, “Your son may have left you nothing, judging from the way he spends.”
I said, “Haha, possible.”
Dad said, “If children can’t help, ask the government.”
Student said, “The application of government support takes examinations. It isn’t something as simple as give-and-take.”
Dad said, “Well, I’ve already got the 2-dollar transportation special offer and health care voucher.”
Student said, “Really? The application for these two may be a little faster. Others may yet take much longer!”
Dad said, “If you can’t sustain a living along the examination process, queue for a free lunch downstairs. You can survive as long as you don’t insist a standard of living too high.”
Student said, “You make a point here.”
Dad said, “Don’t get carried away by your future death. Be proactive in seeking to live.”
……
Another me said, “Your dad is so proactive in seeking to live.”
I said, “He probably knows much better how valuable life is, having been allowed back from death, I guess.”
Another me said, “Your dad is committed to Jesus and granted eternal life?”
I said, “Not yet. But a few years ago, he’s sent to the United Christian Hospital for serious diabetes. The doctor said he’s about to go but God had him discharged and back home.”
Another me said, “Thank the Lord so much. By the way, your dad’s his life saved, but with no faith in Jesus nor eternal life yet. He’s, however, proactive in his life. You’ve committed your life to Jesus, and are granted a new life as well as an eternal life. So how do you do?
I said, “Not only am I proactive in making a living by working hard in the day with the Lord, but I’m also proactive in pursing my dream through studying music at night with Him, and even more, I’m proactive in sharing and testifying how good He is on the website during my Sunday holidays with Him.”

There is nothing like the…
There is nothing like the motivation that comes from contrasting an eternal perspective with one focused on the “in-between” life to fully give ourselves (our lives) to God, where we (they) can be saved. If one can be proactive in seeking life, without the hope of eternal life with God, how much more should we, who claim to know him, be proactive in living faithfully. I think this provides an opportunity to talk about “real life”! The fact is we are all made for eternity. The difference for the believer is they have trusted Jesus, God the Son, to bring them into the Presence of God the Father, the only place where the fullness of life is guaranteed! We find this Hope of eternal life with God in His Word (Matt.16:24-26). Verse 25: “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” (Jn.17:3: “Now this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”)
