A breakfast gathering with my previous student in HKBU.

I said, “Busy with your studies?”

Student said, “Not really.”

I said, “What? But you’re studying translation.”

Student said, “Yes.”

I said, “A translation undergraduate should be very busy.”

Student said, “Not for me.”

I said, “What? Can you show me your class schedule?”

Student said, “OK.”

I said, “Hey, only 2 subjects out of 6 are applied translations.”

Student said, “Yes.”

I said, “So you won’t have enough translation experience.”

Student said, “I find I don’t translate fast enough.”

I said, “Ah, I’ve a suggestion.”

Student said, “What is it?”

I said, “The music Institute before HKAPA asked me to help with their opera translation.”

Student said, “Um…”

I said, “But I’m really busy with music. What if…you help with the first translation to get some experience. And I do the second translation and proofreading. Alright?”

Student said, “Good idea.”

I said, “Let me send you the source text.”

Student read it.

Student said, “Good. Leave me the first translation. When do you need it?”

I said, “By 2359 of March 22nd. 2 weeks.”

Student said, “OK.”

I said, “Decided.”

Another me said, “Don’t take the opera translation if you’re so busy.”

I said, “I’m busy. But I want to do it, I can always find a gap.”

Another me said, “The Lord loves only you, saving you so much time.”

I said, “One-third of your statement is right.”

Another me said, “What is the other two-thirds?”

I said, “Another one-third is that He loves also my student, providing a translation practice opportunity. The other one-third is He loves the music school as well, having the opera script translation done.”
