I got a message from Tony, my secondary classmate who has moved to England.

I said, “Lyrics.”

Another me said, “Of which piece?”

I said, “The pop piece that you composed.”

Another me said, “Oh, you’ve written in orchestral choir. But since then, you haven’t re-orchestrated it.”

I said, “You’re right.”

Another me said, “What? You’ve re-orchestrated in pop style and written no lyrics for it yet.”

I said, “Not yet.”

Another me said, “Unbelievable. It must be the Lord. Hold on, your friend’s just started learning lyric-writing. He shouldn’t have the ability to do it yet.”

I said, “He told me in WhatsApp that it isn’t he but his friend did it, who is a friend of my classmate in Lingnan.”

Another me said, “So you don’t know him. It must be the Lord.”

I said, “By the way, why haven’t you completed the orchestration so far?”

Another me said, “Alas, I don’t have the motivation.”

I said, “Are you kidding? You’re a composer. Is there any composer who is not motivated to compose?”

Another me said, “Do you think composing and orchestration are the only job of a composer? He has to foot the bill after composing.”

I said, “The bill?”

Another me said, “Don’t remember? Sometimes, I have to convert it into digital music in DAW. Sometimes I have to work so hard to bring the work onto the stage.”

I said, “Work hard?”

Another me said, “You have to invite musicians, organise rehearsals, accommodate schedules, arrange practices
you need people in your every step.”

I said, “The more people we have, the better things go.”

Another me said, “I’m too tired to compose.”

I said, “No wonder. As impatient as you are, you lay all your attention on you yourself. How can you be not tired?”

Another me said, “Is there anyone else who can pay the bill for you, composer?”

I said, “My Lord.”

Another me said, “Yes. He sent a friend of my friend in England to fill the lyrics of my in-orchestrated piece at a faraway distance.”

I said, “I’m relieved that you know the Lord does encourage us.”

Another me said, “Thank you.”

I said, “Hey! The Lord found one oversea to fill the lyrics only to receive your 2-word response, ‘thank you’.”

Another me said, “Let’s start the re-orchestration now.”
