By us working together.

I woke up, walked out to the dining room and found my cat Tung Tung burying his head deep into the bowl.

I said, “Wow, what’s Tung Tung doing?”

Mum said, “Eating.”

I said, “What food? He’s buried his head deep into the bowl.”

Mum said, “Wet cat food.”

I said, “Why the wet one? He did the dry one before.”

Mum said, “He couldn’t digest it. He threw it up. He’s getting thinner. That’s why she’s asked for a change of cat food to the wet ones.”

I said, “He looks a little better-built now. So what kind of wet food is he having now?”

Mum said, “Forest’s.”

I said, “Forest?”

Mum said, “He’s got used to Forest’s. I’m worried he can’t take other brands.”

I said, “Detail-minded. Which taste is it?”

Mum said, “Chicken and pumpkin. He loves chickens. I wonder if he’ll take other tastes.”

I said, “Wow, meticulous. Where to buy?”

Mum said, “Legco Pet. There’s one in the shopping down below the Grand Central.”

I said, “How much a can?”

Mum said, “It isn’t cheap. $16 a can. $228 a box of 24 cans, $9.5 each.”

I said, “Wow, very detailed research.”

Mum said, “Of course.”

I said, “So how many cans a day?”

Mum said, “A can a day. It’s enough for 4 feeds.”

I said, “4 feeds?”

Mum said, “He can’t take in too much in each feed. 3 hours a feed, 2 spoons each feed.”

I said, “Quite troublesome.”

Mum said, “What’s more, now that it’s so hot, the food has to be put in the fridge after use or it’ll turn rotten. Then, it has to be steamed hot or it may stir up his stomach, After that, it has to be cooled a bit, so it won’t burn his lips.”

I said, “Can there be anything more troublesome than that?”

Mum said, “If we love our cat, that’s what we’re going to do.”

I said, “I’d like to give thanks to you on behalf of Tung Tung.”

Mum said, “Well received. If he’d ever counted on you, he should have left the world long before. You’re just too busy.”

I said, “I’d like give thanks once again.”

Mum said, “Alright, for me.”

I said, “What? For me.”

Mum said, “The bill for wet food purchases. Pay it please.”

I said, “The whole bill?”

Mum said, “Yes, sister gave ideas. I did the work. You’d pay the bill, won’t you, Tung Tung’s dad?”
……

Another me said, “Just to take care of a cat, is it worth the troubles?”

I said, “Yes.”

Another me said, “Why?”

I said, “Without my sister, nobody else can think of trying wet food.”

Another me said, “Is your brain gone?”

I said, “I simply ran out of ideas. Without my mum, who can go through the freezing, steaming and cooling process and prepare for the 4 feeds for him?”

Another me said, “Is your time lost?”

I said, “I’m either teaching English in the college or studying or music at school or in the band room. I’m very seldom at home.”

Another me said, “You’ve no brain and no time. Why on earth are you still staying here?”

I said, “To pay, without me, who will pay?”

Another me said, “What a fortune. You’re still of some use. Frankly, just to take care of a cat, is it worth the troubles?”

I said, “Yes. To run the love that the Lord designs to its fullness, it takes all of us working together.”
