Parent said, “My son was good at English in primary. But he isn’t since secondary.”

I said, “Why?”

Parent said, “Since secondary, he’s never passed in the English exams.”

Parent said, “Let’s take a look at the mid-term exam paper.”

I said, “Alright.”

Parent took out a USB and plugged it into the laptop computer.

I said, “Let’s look at the reading paper first.”

Parent clicked it open.

I pointed at the first blank in the first paragraph of the passage,

Son said, “Adverb.”

I said, “No, it should be an adjective. Let’s move on to the writing paper.”

Parent clicked it open.

I pointed at the third line of the first paragraph,

I said, “Do you know why your teacher’s commented that this sentence was well-written?”

I said, “Because of your appropriate and accurate use of Subjunctive Mood.”

Son said, “What is Subjunctive Mood?”
