“There is nothing better than talking with the Lord, believe it or not❓”

If so, do it now.

Classmate came over for music exchange. He opened the cover and started playing.

I said, “Hey, why are you practising ‘Jesus Loves Me’?”

Classmate said, “This is what I’m going to play.”

I said, “No, this isn’t what you said you wanted to play last week.”

Classmate said, “Yes, this isn’t the one I intended to play last week.”

I said, “What was the last week’s one?”

Classmate said, “An evening prayer.”

I searched it on YouTube.

I said, “There comes a lot under the keyword search - An evening prayer. Which is the one that you talked about?”

Classmate said, “Rejoice 192”

I searched on YouTube “Rejoice 192 - An evening prayer” and played the music.

I said, “Is it this one?”

Classmate said, “Yes, it is. I used to listen to it a lot when working for a Christian publisher. It sounds nice to me.”

I said, “So nice, why don’t you practise this?”

Classmate said, “Well, I can’t find a piano score that suits my level.

I said, “Why didn’t you ask?”

Classmate said, “I did ask a church brother that leads the music worship. He said he’d would make me a piano score. Who knows I can get from him not even a piece of paper after 3 weeks?”

I said, “Ask him when you can have it.”

Classmate said, “I was told ‘next week’ every time I asked.”

I said, “Let me make you one. You want it?”

Classmate said, “Now?”

I said, “You want it 3 weeks later?”

Classmate said, “Now.”

I found a piano score of “Rejoice 192 - An evening prayer” on the net.

I said, “There are a line of melody and chord symbols, OK?”

Classmate said, “No, I can’t read chord symbols.”

I said, “Let me make you a score where I make a baseline according to the chord symbols.”

Classmate said, “Now?”

I said, “You want it 3 weeks later?”

Classmate said, “Now. Thank you.”

I made the score and tried to play it.”

I said, “Some chords don’t sound good. There isn’t enough tension.”

Classmate said, “So what to do with it?”

I said, “I re-harmonise it.”

Classmate said, “Now?”

I said, “Of course.”

I revised a few of the chords given and tried to play it again.

Classmate said, “It sounds ever better than the one you downloaded.”

I said, “I designed an ascending bassline for the first phrase and a chromatic descending bassline for the second phrase.”

Classmate said, “Sounds good.”

I said, “I think so.”

……

Another me said, “Hey, I heard many ‘now’ in what you do.”

I said, “Really?”

Another me said, “Search the score now, make a score now, re-harmonise a melody now, and play it now…why are there so many ‘now’ in what you do? Why not later?”

I said, “Why should it be later?”

Another me said, “There may be something else better to do now.”

I said, “Music is good enough for me to do now.”

Another me said, “Even prayers, I sometimes may give later, let alone music?”

I said, “No, prayers are ever more instant. I won’t give any later. Whenever I get something to say, I’ll tell the Lord now.”

Another me said, “Does it matter a lot if you tell later? You may have got something better to do now.”

I said, “No, the Lord is the best. Do you think there is anyone or anything better than the Lord?”

Another me said, “Not really. I am a Christian. I am supposed to believe that the Lord is the best?”

I said, “If you do think the Lord is the best, why on earth did you say even the time you’d talk to the Lord in prayers may be later, but not now?”
