As far as I can remember....

Some day in the last few months of 2020

Another me said, “It doesn’t work.”

I said, “What doesn’t work?”

Another me said, “Your digital piano.”

I said, “My digital piano, it’s Yamaha-Clavinova, together with Logic, they work well for composing digital music.

Another me said, “I mean it doesn’t work for the Applied Music examination.”

I said, “Right. I get used to playing digital piano. Every week when I’m back to the music school, it takes me more than 10 minutes to adapt to the piano there. But in the exam, I get to give an instant performance. I don’t know what to do!”

Another me said, “I don’t know either why you’ve bought a digital piano in the first place.”

I said, “My goal is to compose digital music and present my work on the net.”

Another me said, “So how about the Applied Music Examination?”

I said, “I don’t know. I have no idea where to get a piano for my practice.”

One day, after class, I stood waiting for bus 3B opposite to the music school with my classmate that lives in Kwun Tong district.

I said, “Which instrument do you play?”

Classmate said, “Oboe.”

I said, “How about you?”

Classmate said, “Piano.”

I said, “Woodwind, you can’t practice after work. It’s too noisy!”

Classmate said, “OK. I’ve got a storeroom.”

I said, “A storeroom.”

Classmate said, “Yes, in a non-residential building. Nobody will be disturbed.”

I said, “Great.”

Classmate said, “You can’t practice after work either. It’s too noisy!”

I said, “OK. I’ve got a digital piano. I can adjust the volume. I can also plug in a headphone. But the key feels a little different. Every week, it takes a while for me to play what I’ve practised on a real piano.”

Classmate said, “I’ve got a real one in my storeroom.”

I said, “What piano?”

Classmate said, “Kawaii.”

I said, “Where is your storeroom?”

Classmate said, “Kwun Tong.”

I said, “Very close to where I live.”

Classmate said, “Yes.”

I said, “May I come over and rent your piano for my practices? I want to deal with the touching problem during my daily practice.”

Classmate said, “No rent. Free of charge.”

I said, “Thank you.”

Classmate said, “I’ll call you on Sundays when I go to my storeroom.

I said, “Great.”
