Composition Tutorial

Teacher said, “Happy new year.”

I said, “Happy new year.”

Teacher said, “How is your composition?”

I said, “Wait, let me switch on the computer.”

I switched on the computer.

Teacher said, “Are you going to further your studies?”

I said, “Yes, I am.”

Teacher said, “Go ahead if you can.”

I said, “Why?”

Teacher said, “If there is somewhere other than some local music centres you’d like to work with, you’ll not be considered without a Master degree. A doctorate is even better.”

I said, “Wa.”

Teacher said, “What are you going to study? PHD in Composition?”

I said, “Probably not.”

Teacher said, “What would you like to study then?”

I said, “Conducting.”

Teacher said, “Still ok. Many composers study conducting.”

I said, “I want my music path to be more diversified.”

Teacher said, “So you want to study conducting of Chinese music or Western music?”

I said, “Chinese . The competition there seems to be less intense.”

Teacher said, “Western music is better.”

I said, “Why?”

Teacher said, “Generally speaking, Chinese music conductors can only conduct Chinese music while Western music conductors can do both.”

I said, “I definitely take Western music conducting.”

Teacher said, “Who told you you can study conducting after composition?”

I said, “You.”

Teacher said, “I?”

I said, “Yes. You’ve just told me I can. Nobody asked me something like that before you.”

Teacher said, “Alright, can I hear your work now?”

I said, “Sure.”

I said, “I myself.”

Another me said, “Who told you can study conducting?”

I said, “My teacher.”

Another me said, “Who told your teacher to tell you, you can study conducting?”

I said, “The Lord.”

Another me said, “The Lord? Your teacher follows the Lord?”

I said, “What is that?”

Another me said, “If your teacher doesn’t follow the Lord, he won’t listen to the Lord. How could the Lord been able to command your teacher to show you some concerns?”

I said, “What do you regard the Lord to be?”

Another me said, “I take the Lord as God.”

I said, “God? You take Him as god-awful.”

Another me said, “I said I take the Lord as God.”

I said, “If He is God, who can’t He call?”
