1st rehearsal of 7-star array

Gu Zheng performer, schoolmate A and Erhu player, schoolmate B arrived.

Rehearsal started.

Student A said, “The rhythms in 1st and 6th sections are so irregular and complicated.”

I said, “Yes, is it possible to manage?”

Student A said, “Um……”

I said, “If not, let’s delete the few unsynchronised notes.”

Student A said, “This works.”

I said, “Do you mean you can play it then?”

Student A said, “Not now. I’ll play it after some practices at home.”

I said, “Thank you for your efforts.”

……

Student B said, “In section 3, there are crochets, triplets, quavers and quintuplets, many randomly added chromatic tones, in fast tempo, so difficult to play.”

I said, “Yes. Is it possible to manage?”

Student B said, “Um……”

I said, “If not, let’s divide your practice into 4 steps.”

Student B said, “So the 1st step?”

I said, “Practise only the rhythm at a slow tempo and ignore the pitch.”

Student B said, “The 2nd step?”

I said, “Keep the rhythm and practices with pitches at a slow tempo.”

Student B said, “The 3rd step?”

I said, “Keep the rhythm and pitch and practise with chromatic notes at a slow tempo.”

Student B said, “The 4th step?”

I said, “Play the rhythm, pitch and chromatic altogether at a higher tempo.” 

Student B said, “OK. Let me try it out.”

I said, “Thank you for your efforts.”

The 2nd rehearsal of 7-star Array

The Gu Zheng and Erhu players successfully played the difficult parts.

Another me said, “I’m so envious. Not everyone is as lucky as you are.”

I said, “What is my luck about?”

Another me said, “I mean, the Lord is willing to help you.”

I said, “Has the Lord ever told He won’t help you?”

Another me said, “Sometimes we don’t need a straight answer to all questions. For so long, the Lord has offered no help. Everyone can tell.”

I said, “Everyone can tell? Can you tell what’s wrong with your brain?”

Another me said, “What do you mean? Can you say something even more disgusting? Do you mean I'm brainless? Don't make implications. Be straightforward."

I said, “Sometimes we don’t need a straight answer to all questions. Have you ever exercised the brain the Lord’s granted you, and worked out the different ways that you could thought of with the hands He’s made you?”

Another me said, “If the problem cannot be solved until I have exercised my brain and worked different ways out with my hands, for what on earth do I still need the Lord?”

I said, “You’ve got nearly all wrong, except the last sentence.”

Another me said, “Which one?”

I said, “This one: for what on earth do I still need the Lord?“

Another me said, “I’ve never said I no longer need the Lord.”

I said, “Sometimes we don’t need a straight answer to all questions. You neither exercise your brain, nor work anything out with your hands, but demand the problem be solved. I can tell you’re probably not looking for the Lord, but a servant, aren’t you?”
